Audi 80 quattro WTF??

Ok guys need a quick response for this. I'm looking at an audi 80 quattro for a beater. found one localy. As I'm looking at the car the PO opens the oil cap to add some oil and as I"m looking down into the head i see the cam lobe closest to the timing belt is missing a chunk of out of.
I confronted the PO about this and he took a look at it, he said he never noticed it and then shined a flashlight into the head, threw the oil cap hole, and said the cam lobe next to it also had the same chunk missing.
and after looking at the cams for a little bit it almost looks like the cam was made like this. intentionaly missing that chunk. It's missing the chunk at the bottom most part of the cam lobe. The void also has the same consistancy in pattern as the rest of the un machined cam.

So did the audi 80's intetionaly come with cams that looked like theyre missing chunks? or is this cam FUBAR?

BTW the car ran strong. I expected it to run alot worse then it did.
