Initial details of Audi's hotly anticipated new forced-induction V6 are expected to surface tomorrow at an engine symposium in Vienna Austria. We'd first reported on this powerplant in our
B8 S4 Article back in November 2007. Since then there's been plenty of speculation about the engine, believing it to be supercharged, turbocharged or twin-charged with one of each as are a pair of small-displacement engines produced by VW.
We still believe the engine to be supercharged with a system co-developed by Eaton. It should rate at about 330-340hp in the next-generation S4, and more like 290hp in the upcoming facelifted
A6. The latter may also see duty in the
Q5 and is likely to replace the 3.6-liter narrow-angle V6 as base engine for the
Q7 when it receives its mid-lifecycle facelift. One Audi insider also suggested that Audi might consider it for future S5 applications if market demand is there.
One of our readers (thanks Mike) shared some interesting information - Friday's itinerary for the 29th International Vienna Motor Symposium, in which a presentation on the 3.0T FSI is listed. Here's the text:
