A3 2004, rain sensing wipers?!!!

Hi everyone,

ive had my 2.0tdi a3 for over 2 years now and everywhere i read it says the car has rain sensing wipers!, but i dont know how they work....help!???.
mine is the SE and has the auto lights etc, the wiper stalk has not auto position and the only thing it does do is if the wipers are on and you stop in traffic they go back to intermittent, is this the extent of auto wipers?!!!.
thanks for your help, just wondered if its me doing something wrong
