Default Keyless entry problem - need help

When I bought my 98 A4 the batteries in the remote were dead. I finally changed them a couple days ago but the remote still doesn't work. I called up a local dealership and they said that they have to "synchonize" it with the car. Do they really have to do that or are they just looking for money? If anyone has info on this please let me know

They really do have to sync it with the car... .But you could do it yourself if you have 2 keyfobs. Get in the car and turn the key to the on position, then get out of the car, close the door and lock it with the second key while the ignition is still on! Roll down your window so you don't lock yourself out. after you lock the door with the second key press the unlock button.. This worked on my 03 a4. I don't know for sure if it will work for you but it did for me.

Yes mate !! The keys have to be synchronised with the car !!

To program the remote functions on a key, get in your car with the car off and the driver side window rolled down.

insert the key into the ignition

insert your valet key in the driver side door lock (outside the car)

turn the valet key towards lock and hold it there

while it is held towards lock, press the unlock button on your new remote for
2 seconds.

Hope this works for you !!
