Default new b5 owner turbo questions

I've had my audi a4 for about 6 months now and it's idle has never been right, but has got worst in the last couple of weeks.
I've read on the internet several places about cleaning the MAF sensor which fixes it, but, I don't have the courage to take it out, clean it in alcohol and dry it for 24 hours (or whatever is required)
Anyway, I've ordered a new MAF sensor which is coming tomorrow.
It looks an easy swap. Is it standard socket set stuff or do I need any audi specific tools.
your advise is much appreciated.

hello everybody. I bought 1997 a4 1.8t quattro(from usa), and all i can say, it is different philosofy (i was owner of two civics). I changed turbo, fixed some minor bugs from the comp, chaged oils, timing belt, filters, but one thing that troubles me is a fuel consumtion - 15.7/19.6 mpg (city/hgw). No bad simptoms, spark plugs are ok, i even changed them, the most strange is that computer diagnosis says everything is perfect (fuel oxygen mix - perfect), no errors. guys from the cervice center here, in Georgia (caucasus), say it is normal for this car, especially the one from USA, as in USA they put in engines "larger" injectors for more power, and quattro also consumes more then regular front drive a4. Can anyone comment about differences between european and us audi-s? or if somebody had such "strange" problems, could you comment what was the reason. or may be it is realy OK?

Your car is fine it just uses a lot of gas. Thank god that we dont have as high of gas as you.

I would just upgrade the turbo and make more power for the gas consumption!

now i just hope that due to high gas my car has much more power then it should. But does it? My civic even with 1.5 had more torque, hm, well may be just try to drag with an other low gas a4? I will tell about the drag results.

What do you mean by drag? What has been done to the motor?
