Sidelight Bulb replacement A4 2002

Hi all, have often read things on here but had to put pen to paper so to speak. I have a 2002 A4 TDI 130 sport with recently had the front side light blow, tried myself to change it but couldnt get to it, read your articles on removal of the headlight but didnt have the right tools. Audi quoted £20 + VAT. A local friend (machanic) drove to my place and changed it in 55 seconds laughing, all he used was very onlg nosed pliers to grip the plastic parts of the holder together. He even replaced a back bulb all for a fiver!! There is no need to remove the headlight.
