Default timing belt and tenioner repaired, still runs rough

My car has been running very rough, a smart guy on this site suggested I check the timing belt. it was off by about 5 teeth on the cam.

friend and I did the repair over the weekend. started right up, still runs a little rough.

still very fast, no check engine, does it rest or an in motion.

2001 225hp 6 speed. 130k miles.

I may put it on ebay and get one with fewer miles.

do you think I wrecked the head or valves? is there a simple check? no dealer in town and the VW place won't let me in.

any thoughts?

also, before we found the timing belt off, I checked plugs, coils, cleaned MAF, did a vodoo dance.

thanks!

If your TB was off, you could have bent some valves and have low compression in a cylinder if not all of them. Do a compression test and see what you get.
