Default Knocking Noise in Engine Bay Fixed: Read All About It

So here is my original post:

Click Me

I finally had time this weekend to swap the driver's side engine/tranny mount.

I took a look at this fotki HERE beforehand but its really easy to figure out once you get in there.

This is a piece of cake. Audi really engineered this right to allow for easy access. The only advice is that once all the bolts are removed that you drop the engine down about 1". This allows for the old mount to be pulled out and the new put back in with ease.

I compared the new vs old while I had them both out and it was plain as day that the old mount was toast. The mount consists of 2 sides (1 attaches to engine and the other the car frame) that are seperated/joined by a rubber "bushing" full of viscous fluid. In the new mount you could not wiggle the 2 sides seperately. On the old you could wiggle the engine side freely and actually make metal to metal contact with the other side (the knocking I was hearing.)

Again I am happy this was something I could take care of myself and not pay someone to do for me.

Parts: Engine Mount - $180
Stretch Bolts (from dealer) - $27

Labor: My elbow grease - $0

Here is the part I replaced:
