After a ten year run of petrol power, at last a diesel engine is to be offered for the Audi TT.
The 2.0-litre TDI quattro will be available as either a coupe or convertible roadster when it goes on sale in summer 2008.
This diesel TT lays claim to 50mpg-plus fuel economy, a 23 per cent reduction in CO2 output, with Euro-5 compliance beneath the bonnet.
The car is powered by the latest 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TDI engine with ultra-efficient common rail fuel injection incorporating piezo injectors.
Sportiness is still pre-eminent: the Coupe makes the sprint from 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds, with a top speed of 140mph and a healthy 53.3mpg on the combined cycle.
The Roadster is no slouch either, with a .2 second penalty to 62mph, 51.3mpg combined fuel consumption and 5 grams more CO2 per kilometre at 145g/km.
The 2.0 TDI TT is set for a world public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
The car is available to order from March 2008, with the TDI TT priced from £26,350 OTR for summer 2008 deliveries.
