Default Terrible trouble - Is my tranny up for a jack :(( Fault code P0722 & P0730

Hi Guys,

Had some trouble driving my A4 recently. This is B6 model which was pretty fine till now and has been taken care of well.

Trouble: Once I had few judders when I applied brake. It drove fine for few days after wards and suddenly one day when i was driving at the speed of 40 Kph it suddenly got out of gear - no response to acceleartion. I tried reversing after stopping - got success. Tried again for few hundred meters and it stopped responding to acceleration again

Following is the detail:
Fault Code:
17108 - Transmission Output Speed Sensor (G195): No Signal
P0722 - 32 - 10 -- Intermittent

17114 - Gear ratio Monitoring: Incorrect Gear Ratio
P0730 - 16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent
P0730 - 16-10 - signal Outside Specification - Intermittent

How serious is that ? Is my tranny up for a Jack ? Is there any work around ??

I took my car to a non authorised but highly recommended euro car specialist.

At the end I couldn't trust what he said, h kept changing his words. Anyways this is what he said:

Initially he told me "it seems transmission module need to be changed - its worn out. Cost $8200 plus labour"

My obvious reaction was of shock. So he gave me another posible logic - " probabaly sofware has gone corrupt so the speed sensor is conflicting with gear module readings "

I waited for couple of more days and he gave me a call saying that he has reinstalled the software ( which i seriuosly doubt, no where mentioned cost of installation on reciept???) - it should not give any trouble and probably tranny is not as worn out as well. However, if you get stuck again come back and i will change the computer module. Cost $ 3500

I am totally confused ???
