Default Audi A4 Transmission Slip After Battery Disconnect

    Hi,

Please help! I just bought a 1998 Audi A4 Quatro with the 1.8T. I drove the car for about 3 days and everything was great! The car did not come with a radio as the previous owner had an aftermarket and he removed it prior to selling the car to me. Yesterday, I drove the car and went out and bought a radio. I drive back to my house and everything's great. I remove the negative battery cable, install the new radio, reconnect the battery cable, and the check engine light is on. I try to drive around the block and the tranny is slipping into every gear. The car has no tranny leaks or any other leaks for that matter. Is there any way I disconnested a wire behind the radio or something? Seems extremely strange that the car was great until I installed a radio, and now engine light is on and tranny slips. Please please please help! This was a Christmas gift and now the car in not driveable.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jon

Hello John welcome to Audi Forum,

Recheck whether the wiring has been done correctly, also I'd suggest you to check for fault codes, if any, so that the exact cause of the malfunction can be diagnosed and thereby get it fixed. Hope you get it fixed soon

Hi and Thanks for the response! So are there wires behid the radio that would affect the transmission and maybe I disconnected something? Furthermore, do you think there's any way possible that maybe something went crazy when I disconnected the battery? If I delete the codes, may the problem maybe go away?

I am completely clueless as to what the issue may be

    Thanks again for your help!

    Hello again,

I believe that these malfunctions have been caused due to the fact that you had disconnected the battery. Probably, causing problems in the Control module of your car. Have you already checked for the fault codes??, i think that would be wise rather than to keep guessing things. Hope you get it fixed soon.

    Best Regards
