Default Second Temperature sensor on coolant flange

Audi A4 1.8(1996), with ADR engine operates normally but has recently started cutting out just after reaching operating temperature(90 deg C). After a couple of minutes; I guess after cooling off a bit, it would start and go but cuts out again once temperature is reached. I used tips off some related threads and have replaced the Fuel Relay(marked 208) to no avail. There is also reference to a hall sensor relay being a probable cause, but I do not know which one this is. The relay fascia plate sketches/drawing/outlay I'm using do not correspond with the actual. Please advise.

I strongly suspect the temp sensors. I went to spares shop to purchase these, only to find that the are Agents only!! Is this true?

Threads make reference to only ONE sensor. My coolant flange is fitted with TWO, one 2 pronged and the other 4 pronged. The 2 prong has evidence of corrosion attack(pitting) but not right through though. Any advice out there? Thank you.

Hi Robo welcome to AUDI forum,

The sensor you have described which is the radiator coolant temp sensor, might be one of the cause (that often becomes faulty) is located directly at the back of the engine on a pipe between the engine and the bulk head. It is very tight to get to. The sensor is usually green or black.

My advice is that you take your car to the nearest Audi service center and get it checked asap.
