    Hello,

Songs can be deleted through the Setup option when in Jukebox mode. You can delete the whole Jukebox, an album, or individual songs. You can find instructions in the MMI manual. I've not used a audi jukebox but i read this somewhere hope this is right!

Default Any lossless formats for jukebox?

Thanks for the info on how to delete music files from the jukebox. I think I will need that info. I have my CDs ripped on my computer using iTunes and I ripped them using the Apple lossless codec. The files end up as .m4a files (mpeg4 audio). As an experiment, I burned some to a CD as a data disk and was able to import them to the jukebox, but they won't play. The jukebox shows them ok and I can search up and down the lists, but nothing will play. Is there any lossless format that will work?

Thanks for any help you can offer this newbie.

Hello Jeanmairet welcome to Audi forum,

You can import music into your Q5 jukebox from SD card or a CD provided it Must be .mp3, .wma or .aac music files from either source.

    Cheers

Thanks Joshi. I guess I need to see if the lossless version of WMA has a file extension of .wma? There are many versions of each of these codecs. I wonder if the MMI has the codecs for any of these in a lossless compression version?

You are welcome. I'm not sure if any lossless format would have the same extension. If it exists please do let us know if it worked in your jukebox!

    Hi Joshi,

I don't have the complete answer yet, but did find that version 9 of the WMA codecs includes lossless encoding. Also the MMI manual that came with the Q5 states that they support WMA versions 7, 8, and 9. I don't know how careful they were about that statement as regards version 9, but if they support all of version 9 of the WMA codec then they should support lossless for WMA. Also, version 9 of WMA also uses the .wma file extension.

I have been looking for a audio converter software product that will support converting .w4a to .wma version 9. No luck so far. I don't want to have to rip all my CDs again. The .w4a works really great in my ipod and that with the B & O sound system in the Q5 sounds really great. That is why I am working so hard to stay with lossless versus the easy way out of going to .mp3.

Right now I am just trying to get a couple of CDs into .wma lossless to try it in the Jukebox. I will let you know when I am able to complete the experiment to verify that the Audi Q5 MMI plays lossless or not.

    Regards,

    Default No Lossless for MMI

    Hi Joshi,

I completed my experiment this weekend. The MMI will not play lossless formats. The reason is that they require too high a bit rate. In the table on page 15 of the 'MMI Navigation Plus' manual it describes the bit rate and sampling maximums. I ended up using WMA version 9 at the highest rate short of lossless and within the Audi limits. I am happy with the sound quality. I plan to use the Jukebox as a backup for those times I forget to bring the iPod along. It has Apple Lossless files on it. It appears that the limit is due to processor speed and/or codec software version supported.

I did learn a few other things in my experiment that I will pass along.
    1. The file formats the MMI accepts are .mp3, .wma, and .m4a. This is indicated on page 9 of the MMI manual. The latter, .w4a , is the file extension for files of the AAC codec, which includes the Apple Lossless files I first tried. These did not work because of the rate required for lossless.

    2. When preparing to import it is a good idea to play the files from the input media you plan to import from. This way you know the MMI will play them before you go to the time and trouble to import to the Jukebox. The manual says to have the engine running when you do an import and imports are not real speedy.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hello Jeanmairet,

Thanks for the detailed report . I'm sure this will be helpful for fellow members looking to upload music into their jukebox.

If you like you can upload a picture of your Audi Q5 and escort to your album here on go-audi. (http://www.go-audi.com/album.php)

    Default Memory Card Compatibility

I am looking to add a memory stick for the MMI in our Q5. First I plan to use it to load the Jukebox and then as a source for other tunes. The manual says up to 32GB capacity and only SD or MMC cards. I read on a couple of forums that SDHC cards won't work. Does anyone know if this is right? The HC in SDHC stands for 'High Capacity'. As I understand this is the SD format extended for more capacity. I have had no luck finding anything over 2GB in a regular SD card. All the 8 or 16 GB cards are SDHC. The MMC cards also seem to all be rather small. Help.
