Looking for an Audi, a few questions first

Hi I'm totally new to audi, coming from Honda/Acura. I'm looking for something different. I'm currently driving an integra and have always loved the A4's plus we get tons of snow here!!. Are there any better years of the earlier 4's to pick up? Anything to watch for:?

I also frequent the road course and would like to know the engine that better suited to the track. I think at this point Id prefer the 1.8T Thanks for any help.
