I got S-Tronic in my Audi TT. I am loving it, it's so smooth and powerful.
A gearshift only takes 0.1 seconds, you can't even feel it, you only hear the dropping RPM of the engine.
Of course, if it needs to be replaced, then it can get costy.
This is a discussion on Audi Q5 S Tronic fault within the Audi Q5 Forum forum part of the Audi category; Rodlions any news on the transmission replacement?...

G,day all still waiting for a call from Audi service!!!
G,day all, got the call this morning that the Q5 is ready to go!! hooray. I feel like the most loved Audi Q5 owner in Australia today!! I have had soooo many call from Audi Aust to soften me up after 4 weeks without my Q5, remember I only had it for 7.5 days. Anyway I hope it is all good now. It took them a week after fitting the new gearbox to get it to talk to the car, something to do with security codes?
My wife wont let me drive it until next week because I dislocated my AC from the shoulder last Sunday when I got throw off my pushbike, anyway i am still alive & will recover.
I will let you know how it all goes!!
Cheers

multitronic, DSG, stronic pure pleasure to drive but not robust. Complex and difficult to repair, this is why it is being replaced. Get an extended warranty on your Q5
G,day All, well we picked up the Q5 on Friday afternoon, it is going well!! Do to the dusted shoulder I only got to pry it off my wife yesterday for a short drive, it feels like it did before the breakdown fingers crossed it will give me kilometres of trouble free driving from now on!!
Audi are very apologetic about it.

Hello there, I recently bought a new A3 1.8T S-tronic, my car has 9k km and I recently heard some strange noises like grinding coming from the gearbox when the car was in 6th and 7th gear. I took it my audi to the dealer and after 7 days they informed me that they would replace the gearbox. The new part will come from Germany. It's been almost 20 days now, and I'm still waiting. By the way I live in Athens, Greece.
I hope mine is not a lemon either.
G,day Maith, i am still of the opinion that mine was a clutch failure but we will never know. 20 days is a long time to get a part from Germany to Greece, mine was air freighted to Australia within 10 days of them ordering it, the next big hold up was the security codes.
My faith is slowly being restored i have done about 600km now!!
The Q5 is a great vehicle to drive.
Every story in the press here are very good one compared getting out of the X3 into the Q5 like going from the Holiday inn to a Hilton ( I would rather say the Ritz ).
Good Luck
