Hey offen
Unfortunately the 4.2 has very few options available.
As far as the chip go, on the NA cars this is a bit of a waste of money IMHO. The gains are so little that it's hard to justify for the price.
Intake, I would suggest a dropin filter. Easy install and you can clean and re-use them. Most of the intakes for these cars remove the airbox and puts the exposed filter in the hot engine bay, exposed to hot air, exactly what you are trying to avoid. A drop-in filter retains the airbox and provides good power increase for the $50 spent. I used a
True Flow Performance Air Filters, Cold Air Intakes, XDI Air Intakes, Premium Air Filters, Foam Air Filters foam filter. There are also the ITG ones offered by
AWE Tuning The foam filters seemed to be better at filtering and kept flowing better for longer before they needed to be cleaned. The other type is the oiled gause such as K&N & AEM and Afe etc.
Exhaust... I recently got a APR system on mine and I am extremely happy with the sound and performance. Just a little louder than stock. I was lucky enough to get this off eBay for about a third of the price. These are EXPENSIVE!
If you had more money to spend... there was someone that was going to offer a supercharger kit for the 4.2, but I don't know if this ever materialised. I believe it was PES tuning.
Check out my VAGLinks site (in my signaure). I have all these guys listed there.
Cheers
