The more we see of the
Q5 the better it looks. Audi has come late to this SUV segment (the
Q7 is great but too big for many of us), but now offers an excellent candidate in the VW Tiguan, Prado, Freelander, X Trail etc category.
Since late 2000 I've thoroughly enjoyed the capabilities of an S4, an S6, a TT and at present an
A3 TDI, which, with diesel at around $1-70+ a litre does the job very satisfactorily at around 5.5 litres per 100 Km, and the urge of 320Nm combined with 6 speed DSG is great fun when the lights turn green and during open road overtaking.
Being now one of the grey nomads, mid seventies and retired, my wife and I want to see much more of this huge continent, and the many features promised in the
Q5 (20 cm clearance, 50 cm fording ability, latest version of quattro giving confidence in exploring side tracks, choice of two latest technology diesel engines ... the list goes on ...) combines with the level of satisfaction and confidence as a result of past experience with Audi to give rise to great anticipation regarding the
Q5's arrival.
