'96 2.8 quattro exhaust/intake question

So i just bought this 96 2.8 quattro from this russian dude. It's a real clean car but I want to do some more. But I've found that's a pain in the a** to find some aftermarket parts for this engine. So here's what i'm thinking....I'm going to get the magnaflow 14816 muffler cause it sounds pretty nice on the stock piping (by the who knows the stock piping size on a 96?) But I've also been reading on the forums that people with this engine just go to muffler shops and replace the resonator with piping, costing about $60. Is this a good idea? Does the replacing the resonator make a nicer sound? Another thing is intake.....and it's been a b**** trying to find an intake as well for this car. Anyone have any ideas on air intakes for this car. I've heard the K&N 57i intake sounds clean. I'm not trying to make the car fast. Just trying to make it look and sound cleanas much as possible.
